  • Aloha Doc Lightfoot, and Dr. Volpe, Dr. Volpe, how in the world you got an entire Cafeteria (two of them, actually!) to cooperate with your study is mind boggling. The politics alone must have been like a Social Minefield to navigate. The idea of portion sizes has taken root in the mind of ordinary shoppers, and even some Vendors. I just wanted to point that out to you- that your work has impacted food portions in different ways. For example, I have noticed now that you can buy "individual" sized cans of beans, or corn, or string beans. And those portions sizes are very close to the recommended allowance for the average caloric intake. So no longer do you have to make creamed corn for ten, you can get just one serving from a tiny can. I did wonder if Freshman Year weight gain might also be impacted by puberty? (I was on the late end of the bell curve and got a six inch growth spurt after age 20) . Along with that thought, I wonder what impact not eating at home (their usual foods and portions) might have had on them. And lastly, who gained more weight, women or men? So many questions, which is why you researchers are always "tweaking" your studies! Keep up the good work. Smiles, Kevin
